Hire a BMW Super Car

BMW is a well established automotive company that has enjoyed a great deal of success throughout its existence. The title BMW is actually an acronym for Bayerische Motoren Werke which translates to Bavarian Motor Works. The company was first established by Franz Josef Popp in 1916 and began life producing aircraft engines and this is where the origins of the company’s logo stem from. The logo mimics the image of a propeller in action and the colours relate to those incorporated into the Bavarian flag. At the conclusion of the First World War the Versailles Armistice Treaty prevented BMW from producing aircraft engines so they digressed into the production of motorcycles and eventually motorcars. By the 1930’s BMW were producing aircraft engines again for the German Air force, The Luftwaffe.

In present times BMW concentrate their efforts on the production of extremely high quality cars and motorcycles. After buying the Rover Group in 1994 BMW gained the rights to designing and producing the new Mini range of vehicles and even though they had sold Rover again by 2000 due to economical reasons they retained the rights for Mini. In 1998 BMW made the choice to buy Rolls Royce and they still act as their parent company to this day. The city of Bavaria is home to the BMW headquarters and this stunning piece of architecture has become a major landmark within the City. The Building is called Vierzylinder which means four cylinders and the exterior has been purposely designed, by Karl Schwanzer, to look like four cylinders.

In recent years BMW have taken great pride in producing cars which incorporate a vast array of technologies to make them more environmentally friendly. They hold to these views so closely that they have even become official members of numerous environmentally friendly groups including the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).

BMW have had a strong presence throughout the world of motor sport and until recently they played a big part in the world of Formula 1. They supplied engines to a number of teams and in their later years they had their very own team. Unfortunately, due to the current economic crisis, BMW pulled the plug on F1 and left the sport at the end of the 2009 season. They do still have a strong presence in other important motor sport events including BTCC, WTCC and Le Mans as this is an excellent proving ground to trial and develop new technologies, many of which will probably be introduce into their next generation of vehicles.

BMW also produce a selection of cars which are worthy of the title Super Cars, including the BMW M3, M5 and M6 ranges. These are all high performance cars which are bristling with BMW’s latest technological marvels. You can experience the superb driving experience that these high performance cars bestow buy either buying one or by choosing to hire a BMW from your local BMW prestige car hire company.
