The company was first formed in 1903 by Henry Ford and is still run by predecessors of his family today. The existing Executive chairman of Ford is William C Ford who is the great grandson of Henry Ford. Ford’s main headquarters are situated in Dearborn, Michigan but they do have large manufacturing plants in key countries all over the world, such as the UK, Germany, Brazil and even Russia.

 Based on the number of vehicles sold Ford is now the 4th largest car manufacturer within the world. Ford also owns the Swedish car manufacturer Volvo and has a small stake in both Mazda and Aston Martin. Ford Itself is split into three main divisions, each of which produces a specialised group of vehicles. The three present divisions are Ford, Lincoln and Mercury. Ford produces all of the company’s regular models, Lincoln is the luxury brand and Mercury produces vehicles that are in between Ford and Lincoln. 

 Ford produces two vehicles that fall into the super car category; the long running Ford Mustang and the superb and instantly recognisable Ford GT. The later of the two is of a racing pedigree which enjoyed a great deal of success in the Le Mans races of the 1960’s and proved to be almost unbeatable. The Ford GT has recently been resurrected and redesigned into an awesome road car, one of which was purchased by Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson.
